Cascades Life Series: The Golf Course
Cindi Featherston-Shields, your community expert in all things related to The Cascades, takes a look at The Cascades golf course, one of the finest in East Texas.
Opened in 1956, the private course features 6,944 yards of fairways and greens. With four sets of trees, 50 bunkers, and 10 water hazards, the course is meant to welcome and challenge players at every level from beginner to pro.
It is planted with 419 Bermuda grass and Champions greens, which thrive in the East Texas climate, and built on 10-15’ of sand, which ensures excellent drainage after rain to help prevent flooding.
It is rated at 73.9 with a slope rating of 134 from the back trees. Its quality is so high that it frequently hosts tournaments, including the Texas State Open PGA tournament.
The course also is distinguished by its natural beauty, featuring towering oak and pine trees and the stunning backdrop of Lake Bellwood.
It offers a driving range and putting greens for practice and a Golf Academy for lessons with Sean Fleming, head golf pro.
For relaxation, golfers can hang out in The Nest for refreshments and snacks on the course or try the full dining experience in The Bellwood Dining Room in the clubhouse.
